The grounds for same-sex divorce are the same as those for opposite-sex divorce: the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage demonstrated through adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion or periods of separation.

What is the difference between a civil partnership and same-sex marriage in the UK?

A civil partnership offers legal recognition of a relationship between same-sex couples, providing many of the same rights as marriage but without religious or social connotations. Same-sex marriage, legalised in 2014 in the UK, provides the same legal standing as opposite-sex marriage.
