Collaborative Law Solicitors

Collaborative law offers a measured, direct alternative to court-led proceedings. At Goodwins – part of Collins & Hoy Solicitors – our expertise in the collaborative law process enables both parties and their respective solicitors to resolve matters privately.

We help clients and families in Pinner, Harrow and across London to manage sensitive financial arrangements and long-term planning for child arrangements. Our specially trained collaborative divorce lawyers provide constructive, face-to-face meetings, allowing each party to articulate their position and shape the outcome together.

Collaborative Divorce

As your collaborative divorce solicitors, we work with you, your partner and your partner’s solicitor to ensure a non-confrontational process. We remain at the forefront of evolving legal frameworks to ensure you receive current and practical guidance aligned with your goals.

Part of our role is to translate complex matters, while prioritising an amicable separation that avoids the emotional burden and the financial cost of court proceedings. We help you to preserve what matters most to you, guiding you with clarity and confidence.

Is Collaborative Law Right For Me?

Collaborative law is useful in a wide variety of circumstances but may not be appropriate or possible where there is little trust, if the couple are in the midst of a very acrimonious separation, or where there has been domestic abuse. It can work particularly well where financial and children’s arrangements are intertwined, as it allows all arrangements to be worked out together.

Explore your options and understand whether collaborative family law is the right approach for your personal circumstances by speaking with our team today.

The benefits of Collaborative Law

  • Direct negotiation
We facilitate face-to-face dialogue with both parties and their lawyers present to reach a streamlined agreement without court intervention.
  • Discretion & control
The process of collaborative law remains private, with outcomes managed on your terms in amicable discussions.
  • Reduced conflict & tension
A non-confrontational environment protects your long-term personal relationship, which is especially important for co-parenting dynamics.
  • Tailored legal advice
You benefit from our tailored legal support, ensuring your decisions are informed and strategically sound.

Considerations for Resolving Divorce Without Court Intervention

Do I need to go to court to finalise a divorce settlement?

No, many cases can be resolved without setting foot in a courtroom. This reduces costs, streamlines the process and protects your privacy.

What is mediation?

It’s a confidential process where a neutral, trained mediator helps families reach practical agreements without taking sides.

Can mediation provide a smoother process?

Yes. Our structured mediation gives an impartial forum to reach agreements on topics such as financial division and child arrangements.

What is hybrid mediation?

Our mediator solicitors will work with both parties and their solicitors, who can be present to support and advise. This is ideal for complex or high-conflict cases.

What is collaborative law?

This is when both parties and their lawyers agree to resolve the dispute using round table meetings and direct dialogue. Lawyers and parties agree not to issue court proceedings. Each client appoints their own specialist, collaboratively-trained lawyer to structure and plan together meetings to deal with financial settlements or child arrangement disputes. This process works well when negotiating pre- and post-nuptial agreements.

What is Resolution Together?

A specially trained, single solicitor will advise both parties jointly and transparently to facilitate discussions and negotiations to help reach agreements on financial settlement and child arrangement disputes. They also formalise these for submission to the courts. This is a cost-effective, co-operative way to resolve disputes where suitable.

What is arbitration?

This is a private, binding alternative to court. A qualified arbitrator will make decisions on financial or child-related issues that will be turned into a court order.
