News: The Data of Divorce – Latest Divorce Statistics for England & Wales 2015

Divorce statistics change year on year, with fluctuations occurring in varying degrees of severity. We’ve created this infographic to help give you a clearer understanding of the trends in divorce, as well as comparing them to the previous 10 years’ statistics. The most recent statistics, released in December 2015, account for divorces in 2013 only.

What is a divorce rate?

The divorce rate is the way of measuring the amount of divorces in a country. It is the amount of divorces per 1,000 of the population.

What is the divorce rate in England?

The divorce rate in England is 9.8 per 1,000 married men or women. This rate is determined from the most recently available stats: those of 2013.

How many people get divorced each year?

According to the most recent stats, 117,558 couples divorced in the UK in 2013. A decrease of almost 3%.

Are divorce rates rising?

Divorce is actually at its lowest level for 40 years, according to the most recent figures, released in 2015.

What is the number one reason for divorce?

The number one cause of divorce in the UK was behaviour issues. 15,332, or 38% of divorces in the UK petitioned for by men in 2013 were attributed to the behaviour of the other spouse. When women filed for divorce, behaviour was the cause for 54% (39,879) of divorces.

What is the number of marriages in the UK?

A total of 240,854 marriages took place in England and Wales in 2013, which was a decline of 8.6% from 2012.

Husbands vs Wives – who files for divorce?

The split between men and women filing divorce shows that over the past 10 years, women have generally filed for divorce more than men. The below table shows a comparison between the data for 2003 and 2013:
